Feedback Matters
Learning and growth go hand in hand, and regular assessments play a crucial role in gauging progress. The Libra Online School blends internal, external, formal and informal assessment to provide regular progress checks.
A global gateway
Cambridge International AS & A Levels are taken by students globally, serving as a gateway to universities, accepted by 25,000 universities, employers and governments around the world. In countries such as the United States and Canada, good grades in carefully chosen Cambridge International A-Level subjects can result in up to one year of university course credit. 95% of students taking Cambridge International AS & A Levels progress to university.
We work closely with universities, employers and governments, sharing our expertise but also trying to understand their educational challenges so that we can work together to ensure a smooth progression for our students. In the UK, our Education Consultancy Team advises students on their applications to top-ranking universities around the world, specialising in Oxbridge and the Ivy League, thus creating yet more opportunities for our students.
Internal Examinations
Students should actively participate in all assessments and submit their work on time so we can track their progress. If you ever need additional support or accommodations during assessments, don't hesitate to communicate it to our academic staff.
-
Students are formally assessed 3 times per academic year in December, March and June. These tests may include worksheets, online quizzes, handwritten tasks and multiple choice. The results are included and reported to the families in an End-of-Term (EoT) report in pdf format along with detailed feedback on strengths and areas for development.
-
Cambridge Lower Secondary Progression Tests are internal assessments that help to check learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding. Available for our core subjects, English as a first or second language, mathematics and science, progression tests are marked by teachers in our school and available for stages 7, 8 and 9.
-
To ensure students perform well, we go through a revision week before their EoT exams and at least one feedback session before the EoT. This is to provide them with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
-
Additionally, learners are informally assessed at the end of each topic through oral and/or written examination. These may take as little as 10 minutes and do not take the whole lesson. The results of these assessments are detailed in the daily lesson report and archived in our system.
-
Daily reports are written and submitted on the same day as tuition occurs, and sent electronically via our tuition system. This is to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of their students' progress and achievements. Reports serve as a means of communication between teachers, students, and parents, offering insights into a student's academic performance, strengths, areas for improvement, topics covered and overall development.
-
The Head of Centre holds parents' meetings 3 times per year, one for each term. This is a space to discuss students’ development and feedback about academic progress. It is also a great opportunity for parents to meet teachers, ask questions and express ideas about the children’s education. Meetings may also be scheduled upon request at any time. This is to guarantee smooth communication between all stakeholders.
External Examinations
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (International GCSE) and International Advanced Level (IAL) are the UK equivalent of school-leaving or university entrance examinations and are available in a wide range of subjects. They are required for admission to institutes of higher education, colleges and universities. These official certificates are obtained at the end of years 11 and 13 respectively, with exams taking place at approved centres close to your location.
National Examinations
As education becomes increasingly global, we understand that families may seek flexible schooling solutions that allow students to sit national exams in their home countries. Our international curriculum, academic support, and exam preparation helps students to successfully take national exams such as the Selectividad in Spain, the Matura in Austria, or the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) in France. Thes are, of course, examples of national exams we have helped our families with.
Preparing for Selectividad in Spain
The Selectividad, officially known as the Pruebas de Acceso a la Universidad (PAU), is the exam students must pass to enter Spanish universities. Our international online school supports students by offering Spanish language courses, subject-specific preparation aligned with the Spanish Bachillerato, and mock exams to familiarize them with the testing format. Additionally, expert guidance helps students navigate the university admission process, ensuring they meet requirements for public and private universities in Spain.
Supporting Matura Candidates in Austria
In Austria, students take the Matura, a rigorous exam that determines university entrance eligibility. We are ready to help students by providing a well-structured curriculum that aligns with Austrian academic standards. With personalized tutoring in core subjects such as mathematics, German, and sciences, students can receive targeted support. Online study groups and access to past exam papers further aid their preparation, ensuring they feel confident on exam day.
Assisting with the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) in France
For students in France, the DNB is a crucial milestone at the end of lower secondary education. Our comprehensive approach offers lessons in French literature, mathematics, history, and sciences. Regular assessments, interactive learning materials, and exam simulations help students develop strong foundational skills. Moreover, we provide flexibility for expatriate or bilingual families who may wish to maintain a connection to the French educational system.
